چکیده
OBJECTIVE To measure the ultrasound propagation velocity (UV) through a tibial transverse osteotomy in sheep, before and after the fixation with a DCP plate. MATERIAL AND METHODS Ten assemblies of a DCP plate with the diaphyseal segment of tibiae, in which a transverse osteotomy was made, were used. Both coronal and sagittal transverse and the axial UV were measured, first with the intact bone assembled with the plate and then with the uncompressed and compressed osteotomy; statistical comparisons were made at the 1% (p<0.01) level of significance. RESULTS Compared with the intact bone assembly, axial UV significantly decreased with the addition of the osteotomy and significantly increased with compression, presenting the same behavior for the other modalities, although not significantly. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION In accordance with the literature data on the ultrasonometric evaluation of fracture healing, underwater UV measurement was able to demonstrate the efficiency of DCP plate fixation. The authors conclude that the method has a potential for clinical application in the postoperative follow-up of DCP plate osteosinthesis, with a capability to demonstrate when it becomes ineffective. A numerical and experimental study on buckling and post-buckling of cracked plates under axial compression load
Existence of cracks in industrial structures is one of the important causes of their failure, especially when they are subjected to important axial compressive forces that might lead to buckling. Therefore, it must be considered in stress analysis and designing and loading of such structures. In this paper, the buckling and post-buckling behaviors of stainless-steel cracked plates under axial c...

متن کاملQuasi-static Axial Compression of thin-walled Circular Composite Tubes
Assessing the behavior of composite structures which are subjected to impact loads is one of the important subjects in the field of mechanical sciences. Using thin-walled tubes which collapsed and absorbed the impact energy is a well-known method to prevent damages to the other parts of the structures. In this paper, deformations, crushing length, peak load, mean force and energy absorption cap...
متن کاملExperimental and Numerical Simulation Investigation on Crushing Response of Foam-Filled Conical Tubes Stiffened with Annular Rings
In this paper, crashworthiness characteristics of conical steel tubes stiffened by annular rings and rigid polyurethane foam are investigated. For this purpose, wide circumferential rings are created from the outer surface of the conical tube at some determined areas along tube length. In fact, this method divides a long conical tube into several tubes of shorter length. When this structure is ...
متن کاملPostbuckling Equilibrium Path of a Long Thin-Walled Cylindrical Shell (Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube) under Axial Compression Using Energy Method
In this paper, an elastic shell model is presented for postbuckling prediction of a long thinwalledcylindrical shell under axial compression. The Ritz method is applied to solve the governingequilibrium equation of a cylindrical shell model based on the von-Karman type nonlinear differentialequations. The postbuckling equilibrium path is obtained using the energy method for a long thin-walledcy...
